Kelly Marshall
AMPWDA Trainer
Kelly has been a member of AMPWDA since 2013. She is a founding
member of Grafton Fire K-9 Unit and also a volunteer member of Tyler
County Search and Rescue of West Virginia. Her love of helping
others developed throughout the years of being an EMT, 30+ years. In
2008, she began training her first bloodhound (Brutus). She has
trained with many different agencies and individuals including Kevin
Kocher. In 2013 she acquired Daisy Mae and she became her primary
working dog. Kelly has attended many AMPWDA seminars, working with
the Master Trainers and Trainers. After a great deal work and
training, she has certified through AMPWDA with Daisy in Mantrailing
at Level I, Level II and Level III.
Kelly also has a basic knowledge of HRD(land and water) and Air
scent, as her Grafton K-9 Unit is comprised of all disciplines, and
since they all train together, each member helps the other teams to
achieve their goals for Search and Rescue.
Kelly is very community oriented, currently serving as Chief of her
department, Flemington Area EMS for the past 13 years. She also
serves as a volunteer at the local elementary school, where she
takes Daisy occasionally to interact with the school children. She
is also very active in the “Project Lifesaver” program for Taylor
County, serving as co-coordinator for the county. Grafton Fire K-9
Unit works hand in hand with “Project Lifesaver” to assist in
finding lost persons.
When it comes to training, Kelly always has an open mind, always
trying to adapt to new ideas of training that work well for her and
her canine. She certainly credits AMPWDA with instilling their
training practices into her mind many years ago. To her, it is as
important to train your own dog as it is to help and watch others.
It is her theory that “what works for me, may not work well for you,
but if you have an open mind and open ears, you will learn something
new”.
